A call for a answer....

Ok, i have a question for all the people that do ren fairs on this list. (looking for the ones that are activlly working them every year) what makes you do it year after year. The heat, the cold, the rain is hell on you, but you still go out and perform or sell stuff. Why do you keep going back.......

nimrodjcs and I do it for two reasons:

1) It helps out our artist friend.
2) It makes us money.

That's it. Sadly, we do it for the money.

My dear friend, Jason Dawson, answered that question for me. It's for the people. Not just the patrons who are loyal and come to be dear friends, many of them, but the rest of the performers who become "family of choice" for us.

My faire family is actually closer than my bio family, by a long shot. I think a lot of us can say that. If push came to shove and we had to gather together for survival, it's my faire family that I'd be looking out for and gathering up with for safety-sake. You betcha.

I love the art form and the performing and ye gods, do I love the music but it's all about the people.

Long, discursive, anecdote-filled commentary, ending with either:

a) "What, and give up showbiz?" or

b) "The Aristrocrats!"

Not that I work fairs, but I do help run cons, including other people's cons, and it's much the same kind of thing.
