Tails from ren fair 2

"Her's is bigger than yours dude!"- guy talking to his friend about the size of his tail he was choosing

Carol was out at fair this week end. A good thing. tho she had to go to a funeral on saturday. (never a good thing) the week end was slow. Not that many people out at fair. There was less than usual. of course it was 2nd week end. First 3 have been known to be the slow week ends. So not a surprise. Jude my potter friend had trouble with her car so she did not get the stuff done for the shop this week. This means a few weeks worth of pottery this coming week end, another good thing. My friend Becky, got hurt the night before and had a possible bruised rib. Not good, but her husband was doing ok after the week end before shoving a metal engraver in to his hand. A good thing.... Oh and last but not least i was happy to see Morgan take and embrace her barbarian heritage.

This week had a new item to my end of the booth. instructions on how to take care of your tail. yep i did up a front to a card with pictures showing how to glue down a shoelace in to a tail and help make it last longer. a item that we should of had years ago. but thats ok, it took us some time to figure other stuff out so why not this item. Cindy reinforced some tails. We had a batch that was not doing well so we took and reinforced them. they did better this way. we sold another of the boar skins. Thats 2 in 2 week ends. now if we can get rid of the one that is a rug mount, that would be great.

Precious the barbarian come by the booth. Alex who plays precious gave our booth a nick name that i love. The barbarian Hot Topic. That was to funny. It was good to talk with him for a while. i miss hearing from people and lets face it, facebook and emails is only so good. Also saw the McCullough family out and about. I saw one other person but they never come by the booth. they did look like they was enjoying them selves tho.

I got out of the booth early sunday morning. For a hour and a half i took and walked around fair to see the buildings and stuff out there. its amazing to see the amount of changes. But i can also say i have seen changes in the people out at fair. Death and divorce for some was a major change for the year. Some have quiet and moved on to different fairs. (by choice or not) others are doing different jobs. its been surreal at time. Thankfully the booth stays the same. We sit around after hours and eat, drink and talk. usually we are in bed by 9. get up in the morning have coffee and start the day over again.

i was going to tell of a conversation where a girl didn't want to buy a tail, but finally did. (she would later come by because she wanted more tails) But i decided to say some thing else. Many years ago i took and started out at ren fair as a baby sitter. As the years went by, i would stay close to the girl i baby sat. i have watched her grow up. On first week end she come by the booth and she was pregnant. Her due date is in November. This made me happy. With all the stuff that has happened to the ren fair community this year, its good to see some thing good happening...

*sigh* I admit that I miss being there and seeing everybody even if I hardly ever had time to come to your shop.

I think we'll be out there in mundanes on October 4th, if we can get comps. I simply refuse to pay to get in there.

i want you to know you are missed out there. But i can understand why your not. (and i can tell you some of the people that did show back up are kind of saying "why the hell did i acept less pay?") it would be good to see you out at fair. But i deffinitly understand the fact you would not want to pay to get in. After the years of service and this is the thanks you get. But let it be known you are loved out at the pirate fair. plus being on stage with 3 pints gone. thats great!

i told one person that i had been out there every year its been open and most of them as a worker. Don't know what i would do if i didn't work there. go nuts i think....

As it was, we still tried to negotiate. We OFFERED to do it for a bit less, not as much as they were insisting and THEY told US they couldn't negotiate so it wasn't us not wanting to be there. Hell, we'd still have operated at a loss...but they wouldn't negotiate.

At this point, the musicians who are doing 12 shows a day SHOULD be saying "what was I thinking" but they're the ones who signed that contract.

It's very nice to be missed and even nicer to be in a place where we're appreciated and paid what we're worth. But dayum, I miss KCWTF!

a lot of contracts got changed. And now from what i am hearing some people that run booths are being screwed over. Sigh....

That's been happening for years, according to my sources.

It's damn sad.
